I wasn't able to find a laptop that had enough internal storage for both karaoke and DJ files, so I've been using an external without any issues with it not being an SSD drive. As far as specs, generally speaking the software you choose will have their own recommendations, however I would go with something along the line of core i5/i7 or equivalent for your processor, 8GBs of RAM, and an HDMI output (as opposed to a display port.
